I started in the horticulture field in 1984 while in high school. Growing geraniums for the beautification of the school grounds and created corsages and boutonnieres for the sports teams and coaching staff all year. With my Associates of Arts Degree in Floral Design and Greenhouse Management. My early experiences included working in plant nurseries, managing floral shops, and designing arrangements. In 1996, I became the Hotel Horticulturist for Cavanaugh’s Hotels (now known as The Centennial by Davenport Hotels) and was responsible for overseeing the interior plantscapes, landscaping, weddings, floral design, and holiday decorations for 12 properties. In 2001, I left to start my own business, Kathy’s Designs, which has allowed me to continue my love of horticulture, floral design, interior plantscapes, and holiday decorating. Kathy’s Designs bring a personal touch to locations throughout the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene area with the assistance of my little helper (learn more below about my helper). Thanks to my super awesome, loving, and amazing husband who supports me.
Stella Jean, you have recently joined the company as an entry-level designer. Boy, what a wonderful addition you are. As of now, your designs are basic and consist of reshaping your ball but, little by little, you are catching on and often give my designs a good looking over to continue learning. As a young pup, you make every day a new adventure. You are my constant protector and I am still getting used to that even though you take that job very seriously. Thanks, Girl! And what a goofball you are! Oh my goodness, some of your antics have had me crying from laughter and dropping to my knees, or even at times I drop my tools due to laughing so hard. Laughter is good on a job. You are learning your role and I can see that you are an independent and confident pup. Those are great attributes in an employee and I am glad you have them. Stella Jean, you picked me and I had no idea what you would bring to my life and the company. So far, you have shown your loyalty, love, and readiness for fun anytime, and a few photo opportunities along the way. I am excited to see what you will continue to bring to our daily lives, all the adventures yet to be had and how you will impact the company. #sjpawapproved New Hire 1/24/2020
From day one, on the job, Joy was polite, careful, and ready to go. Joy, you were my angel dog as you were so kind and compassionate to clients and their pets you met through the years. You were always ready to comfort anyone who needed some doggie love. Throughout your time with the company, you worked your way up to my supervisor. And Joy, you took that role seriously. You were always ready for a photo opportunity giving your smile of approval on anything we were doing. You were such a good supervisor, always available with those encouraging eyes or ready to play on a work break. You didn’t need to be taught how to be careful around the plants and flowers we hauled in the company vehicles. From day one you made me laugh, kept me smiling, and filled my workdays with love from your big heart. I have so many fond memories of you as I work at client’s yards you frequented too. I stop and relish our fun times. From your muddy playtimes when we worked in the rain, to “egging” me closer and closer to the river so you could go run in and get your feet wet, to your genuine personality and constant companionship. Thanks, Joy, for being you. Joy, you are so missed. We know God brought you into our lives and what a blessing and gift you were. Rest in Peace JoyFull 2010-2019
