I began my journey in the horticulture industry in 1984 while still in high school. I cultivated geraniums to enhance the beauty of the school grounds and crafted corsages and boutonnieres for the sports teams and coaching staff throughout the year. With an Associate of Arts Degree in Floral Design and Greenhouse Management, my initial experiences encompassed working in plant nurseries, managing floral shops, and creating arrangements. In 1996, I took on the role of Hotel Horticulturist for Cavanaugh’s Hotels (currently known as The Centennial by Davenport Hotels), where I was tasked with overseeing the interior plantscapes, landscaping, weddings, floral design, and holiday decorations for 12 properties. In 2001, I decided to establish my own business, Kathy’s Designs, which has enabled me to pursue my passion for horticulture, floral design, interior plantscapes, and holiday decorating. Kathy’s Designs adds a personal touch to various locations across the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene area, with the help of my little assistant (more details about my helper below). I am grateful to my incredibly supportive, loving, and amazing husband who will always stand by me.
Stella Jean, you are such a fantastic to have on our team. I often review my designs with your insights to make sure it is paw approved. Every day with you feels like a new adventure. You are my unwavering protector. Thank you, Girl! And what a delightful goofball you are! Oh my goodness, your antics have made me laugh so hard that I've cried, or at times, I've let my tools slip from my hands due to uncontrollable laughter. Laughter is truly beneficial in our work. These are wonderful qualities in an employee, and I am grateful that you possess them. Stella Jean, you chose me, and I had no idea the joy and value you would bring to my life and the company. So far, you have demonstrated your loyalty, affection, and a readiness for fun at any moment, along with a few memorable photo opportunities. I am eager to see what you will continue to contribute to our daily lives, all the adventures that lie ahead, and the impact you will have on the company. #sjpawapproved Dedicated employee since 1/24/2020
Joy was courteous, attentive, and eager to begin. Joy, you were my angel dog, showing kindness and compassion to the clients and their pets you encountered over the years. You were always there to provide comfort to anyone in need of some canine affection. During your time with the company, you advanced to the position of my supervisor. And Joy, you took that responsibility to heart. You were always ready for a photo opportunity, flashing your smile of approval for everything we undertook. You didn’t require any instruction on how to be cautious around the plants and flowers we transported in the company vehicles. From the very first day, you made me laugh, kept me cheerful, and filled my workdays with love from your generous heart. I have countless cherished memories of you while working in the clients' yards you often visited. I pause to savor our joyful moments. From your muddy escapades when we worked in the rain, to “nudging” me closer and closer to the river so you could dash in and wet your feet, to your authentic personality and unwavering companionship. Thank you, Joy, for being yourself. Joy, you are deeply missed. We believe God brought you into our lives, and you were truly a blessing and a gift. Rest in Peace JoyFull 2010-2019
